"Resurgence" is Father Moon's follow up to 2023's "FM". It is a departure from their signature power doom sound that had evolved since 2019. Following a line up change that saw Vocalist William Grant exit the band, Father Moon transitioned into an instrumental power trio.

With an inability to play any of the old vocal material Father Moon's remaining members started to craft all new instrumental tunes. This departure from power doom turned into what they called post-doom (a post-rock doom metal hybrid). Explosions in the sky meets Monolord.

These songs were crafted by 3 musicians in a room, playing together and exploring a sonic landscape. Each member shifting and acting on their own but with a greater framework in mind. Each song being the product of extended jams that slowly honed every idea into a concise form.

To record these songs Father Moon's members attempted a new way of recording they had not yet tried. Recorded over 3 days in one room, live off the floor, often in a single take, with no click track. The product becomes the best possible representation of Father Moon's live sound. These songs are not perfect, they are not meant to be. They are loose and unconfined, and they flow.

Resurgence as a title appears to convey a return to form, as if we as a group lost our way and have wandered back. In fact, this album has been a reinvention, and a reawakening. Whenever a member leaves, especially a singer, it changes the dynamic and direction of a band, and there is always the instinct to try and reconnect with the magic of the past; a hope of "what if we can do that again!" Instead, we learned to appreciate what we are and always have been. Bass, Drums, guitar, and a room to make some noise. So please enjoy this sonic journey with us.

Bio

From the celestial beyond comes the great entity known as “Father Moon”. Cast out was Mother Earth, as the sun was severed, and now only our Father Moon is here for guidance. The ethereal riffs, the grounding bass, and the plodding drums set the stage for the Father Moons haunting sermons. It casts its gaze upon you, the weary listener. Only the most foolhardy and ardent True Believers amongst you know that Father Moon is here to stay and its clutches are ruthless. Hang on tight, traveler, for your journey has just begun.

Woodhawk with Crooked Spies, Fear The Mammoth and Father Moon

 —  —

Dickens, 1000 9 Ave SW, Calgary

Woodhawk with guests Crooked Spies, Fear The Mammoth (Edmonton) and Father Moon @ Dickens Pub February 21, 2020

8:00PM $10

Woodhawk Between earth and sky, heaven and hell, darkness and redemption lies the realm of Woodhawk. A rock-solid three-piece bound together by the ties of brotherhood with an uncompromising sound honed on the whetstone of personal hardships and heavy tidings. Arriving on the heels of their previous LP, Beyond the Sun, Woodhawk’s latest offering, Violent Nature, resonates with brutal honesty and hard-won acceptance. From the clean tones and heart wrenching lyrics of vocalist/guitarist Turner Midzain, to the indomitable rhythms of bassist Mike Badmington and drummer Kevin Nelson, each song represents a chapter in the band’s big book of tribulations. Journey from dawn to dusky in one fell swoop as Violent Nature delivers its gutsy message from death’s doorstep to your trembling ears.

Crooked Spies Sweaty palms and beat red bliss, broken strings with an electric kiss. From an outsider looking in this concisely paints a picture of Crooked Spies, a four-piece rock band hailing from Calgary, AB. Fronted by brothers Dylan and Steven Evanik, the group spans the entire spectrum of the genre. Influenced heavily by the garage rock revival, they adhere to a raw & natural, "passion vs. fashion" approach to the art form having been compared to acts such as The Black Keys, RATM and Danzig.

Fear the Mammoth Starting out young. Based from Edmonton AB. Benjamin Stivicic And Patrick Santos new they were ment to rock the stage together. Trying out different instruments they realized the best sound they could get was just from the two of them. FINALLY in 2016 FEAR THE MAMMOTH was born! With Bens heavy fuzz guitar and Patricks hard hitting drums their surf/garage rock/punk sound is sure to make heads bang. Leaving it all on the stage their energy makes people wanna jump and their rhythm make em wanna dance.

Father Moon Four musicians combining operatic vocals, atmospheric guitar, melodic bass and versatile percussion. With slow and sludgy riffs, dark tones of eastern influences, including the use of heavily affected vocals, Father Moon evokes a unique sonic experience.
